DoorMate

DoorMate was founded in 2009 by Terry Burnett and is based in Cardiff, South Wales, operating from a workshop in Roath. Terry Burnett has over 20 years of experience in the garage, industrial, and automatic door industry. The company began manufacturing its own sliding barn door hardware in the UK in 2015. It serves customers across the UK and internationally. Its products are handmade in the UK. DoorMate offers custom door systems and an automatic door option.

It provides detailed fitting instructions written by its team and engages with customers through a detailed spec request sheet, providing updates with photos during production. Its hardware system names are inspired by Terry Burnett's punk-rock days with the band 'No Choice'. DoorMate has supplied sliding door systems since 2009. It manufactures, supplies, and installs barn door hardware, pocket door kits, and internal and external sliding systems.

Barn doors, sliding doors and the specialist fittings that accompany them form the core of what buyers describe about DoorMate, and the calibre of the finished joinery is a theme running through the accounts. Doors are said to be solid, rustic and carefully made, including designs in reclaimed timber matched to outbuildings built from salvaged boards, pallet cladding and a green roof. Terry is named often for guiding customers through sizing, finish and rail system choices, including pocket door frames that had to satisfy fire regulations along with the necessary accessories, and his support is described as quick and patient.

Communication spans the whole process, from initial discussions about requirements to questions answered after goods arrived, and when one issue arose on receipt it was resolved without difficulty. Deliveries arrive safely with packaging carefully protected and quoted lead times honoured, even when a reclaimed timber build ran on because of supply delays. Fittings for a barn renovation were supplied with equal attention, clear instructions made fitting straightforward, and a rapid repair to a shop door also features among the experiences recounted.
