What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Tyneside Home Improvements is a Gateshead-based firm whose customers frequently describe work on conservatories, orangeries, garage conversions, windows and doors. Several accounts note the professionalism and friendliness of the tradespeople involved, from the sales team through to fitters, plasterers and roofers, and several note that the workforce was quick, efficient and pleasant. Tidiness comes up often, with sites swept and cleared at the end of each day even during construction-type projects. Communication is another recurring theme, particularly updates from office staff about timescales and the speed with which queries or small issues were addressed.

Customers describe the finished results in terms of workmanship and finish, including a Supalite roof and new windows that made a conservatory feel considerably larger, and brickwork and window frames matched to an existing property. Pricing is mentioned in relation to value, with one account noting the quote was higher than alternatives before the work was chosen. Problems that arose were reportedly handled quickly and effectively. Accounts reference completed orangeries, refurbished conservatories and replacement windows, alongside garage conversions, as the kinds of projects the firm undertakes.

Tyneside Home Improvements built us a good-quality garage conversion overall, and we are happy with the finished result. Every tradesperson who came to our house was polite, professional, and tidy throughout the project, and we genuinely can’t fault the standard of their work. However, we chose THI despite their quote being more expensive because we were complete novices to this type of project and felt reassured after meeting their salesman that we would receive a high level of service and support throughout the process. Unfortunately, while the workmanship itself appears to be very good, we have been left disappointed by the communication and customer service we received. We were told THI would handle all aspects of building control, but after completion the building control company contacted us regarding documents they had not received. I passed this back to THI last week and have still not had a response. Edit to say, the build was completed 7 months ago and we have been informed from building control that we need an extension to our notice period as THI still haven't supplied all documents. There were also discrepancies between the plans and what we were verbally told by the surveyor. For example, where a wall was removed next to a small kitchen unit, we were led to believe the gap would simply be finished flush with plasterboard or similar. Instead, we have been left with half a wall remaining, which is not what we wanted and now needs rectifying before our new kitchen is fitted. THI said they would discuss this internally and come back to us, but we have heard nothing further despite several weeks passing. We were also repeatedly assured we would have an exact brick match to the rest of our house. Months before the build started, we informed the surveyor of the exact brick type required. Then, only around a week before work began, someone came out to carry out another brick check, which required me to take time away from work. After this, we were told the brick could not be sourced and that a “similar” one would need to be used. While on the phone to them, I managed to find the exact brick myself within minutes at a builders’ merchant less than two miles away. Another issue was communication around the finer details of the build. We had been told tradespeople would discuss decisions with us directly, such as door positions and opening directions, but in reality this often didn’t happen and we had to catch people as work was already starting. This is not the fault of the tradespeople themselves, but it felt like there was a lack of coordination and briefing from the company. There were also smaller details that, while perhaps minor individually, mattered to us as customers. For example, we were not informed that insulated plasterboard would be used on the external wall, which reduced the available space slightly and meant we later had to trim a door frame around furniture we had planned to install. There were also days where I stayed home waiting for workmen to arrive, only for no one to turn up, and I had to contact the office myself to find out what was happening. Overall, we are pleased with the final garage conversion itself, but we specifically paid more in the expectation of a smoother, more attentive service experience. Unfortunately, that side of the project fell below the expectations that were set for us at the start. We feel we should have went with another company and we wouldn't recommend THI.

Having travelled throughout the North of England visiting double glazing companies for nearly 40 years, I have developed a strong understanding of the fenestration industry. Rarely do you see a company grow to the scale of Tyneside Home Improvements whilst still retaining the personal touch and community values of a truly local business. Established in 2008, Tyneside Home Improvements has grown into one of the North of England’s leading home improvement specialists, building a reputation based on honesty, trust, quality, and customer care. Their success has been driven by innovation, particularly within the conservatory market, where they were among the first to introduce SupaLite tiled conservatory roof systems, helping transform conservatories into practical year-round living spaces. Regularly shortlisted for industry and design awards, their growth and achievements have deservedly brought them into the spotlight. Today, with over 20 vans on the road, Tyneside Home Improvements continues to transform homes across the region. We have also enjoyed a strong business relationship over many years, sharing the same core values around customer service, investing in people, creating jobs, and building long-term success through reputation and integrity. Their journey is one to admire and reflects the hard work, vision, and standards they continue to uphold. I wish them every continued success for the future.

Having used this great company before for a beautiful conservatory light weight roof. We decided to get new doors to front and rear of our home these were our first port of call,. The two fitters that fitted them were absolutely brilliant Father and son Kev and Lewis, the job took 4 hours and they were so polite and did a fantastic job they left everything spotless. We recently had an extension completed by Tyneside Home Improvements and from start to finish, the entire experience was absolutely stress-free and smooth. Every member of the team — from sales and office staff to the builders, fitters, plumber, plasterer and electrician — was not only professional but genuinely lovely to deal with. A special shout-out goes to Derek and Ian, the builders who worked tirelessly throughout the project. Their knowledge, attention to detail and work ethic were second to none. They were completely trustworthy, and even our dachshund took a real shine to them — I think he actually misses his pals now that the job’s done! The work was completed to a very high standard, with an impressive balance of speed and precision. We had one small issue with a window, and they came out and sorted it almost immediately — no hassle at all. We couldn’t be happier with the result and would honestly recommend Tyneside Home Improvements to anyone looking to have work done. A brilliant team delivering brilliant results. Thank you!

Superb company. Thoroughly recommend. Installed new windows, front and back composite doors, new frames and glass in our conservatory and a Supalight roof. Competitive price and every member of staff we have dealt with has been excellent. From Dan the salesman, the fitters, plasterers and sparky. Very happy.
